Breakfast in the Forest

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As a branch our members are spread over a very wide area and it is not easy for us to be able to get together for a branch run; however with the prospect of a free breakfast and a run through some of Gloucestershire’s finest Ian managed to gather enough support to do this our fourth only run since the branch was formed.  Starting from the Oakwood we meandered through the lanes following the steady thump of Ian’s Model 18  the only problems encountered being one very frisky horse and another not so frisky with the young girl riding it more interested in her mobile phone than what was happening around her!

On the way we picked up Chris S and Jill who took over the lead to help us find our destination which was the home of Chris Norton in the village of Ruspidge near Cinderford.  Chris in a moment of madness had offered to provide us all with a ‘Full English’ which after we had parked the bikes and disrobed he duly did

On behalf of those of us who were able to take part in this run I would like to give a big ‘Thank You’ to Chris & Sharon for the making us all so welcome and for the providing us with such a magnificent spread

Prescott Bike Festival 2013

The end of a long but great day

The end of a long but great day

Due to the fact that the date of this years Prescott Bike Festival clashed with the Club’s AGM at Gaydon, several of our branch members had to miss this most  prestigious event; never the less twelve hardy branch members turned up very early on a rather chilly morning to man the branch stand.

As all of the exhibitors had to be there no later than 8.30am on the Sunday, Chris S and Colin had volunteered? to erect our new marquee on the Saturday so that all would be ready for us on the day.  Thanks Guys much appreciated.

The pitch allocated for us this year was one level up the hill from last year which meant we had a spectacular view across the surrounding countryside even allowing us to see the Toddington to Cheltenham Steam engines in action.

During the day we had a lot of people visiting the stand showing a lot of interest as well as the usual story telling from yester year.

It was a very long day which did get warmer as the sun rose into a lovely blue sky and as the clock approached the 5.30pm end of event time, we all mucked in to dismantle the stand, load everything that needed carting away and started our bikes and made our way home.  A great day.

All lined up for the Gloucester Branch ‘Bread & Dripping Run’

The Venue for this event is the Old Market Hall in Ross on Wye and was for many years organised by Gordon & Margaret Lucas.  Following their recent passing it is hoped that this event will be on the calendar for 2014 as as the next genaration of the Lucas family, Neil & Gail, are very keen to carry on the tradition
